A four-month-old baby boy was
admitted to the intensive care unit of the Giovanni XXIII
paediatric hospital in Bari Tuesday following an ethyl coma
allegedly caused by drinking wine, after an error in the
preparation of a baby bottle when the alcoholic substance was
mistakenly used to dilute powdered milk.
It was the baby's mother who, after realising the mistake,
accompanied him to the emergency room of the Perrino Hospital in
Brindisi, where the baby was given urgent treatment, including a
gastric lavage, and then intubated and transferred to Bari.
The Brindisi public prosecutor's office was also informed of the
case and may acquire medical documentation on the incident in
the next few hours.
